All I Ever Wanted?[edit]

I believe that even though it is debated, there is no basis for saying All I Ever Wanted is the English version of DotA, it really doesn't even sound the same. The two songs have literally the exact same melody and the same beat, but yeah, they sound totally different. Whoever wrote the first sentence and the sentence after this one is a complete idiot, and I recommend disregarding everything they claim. I request a removal of the whole development section until proper citation is given. Aswed123123123 (talk) 04:41, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Plagiarism II[edit]

I have taken out the following text 'There has been rumors of plagiarism about DoTa, some people accusing Basshunter of stealing Daddy DJ melody. However, Basshunter indeed ask for authorization from Daddy DJ authors/composers before releasing DoTa, and was given legal clearance' I took this out because after searching for hours i did not find any public release stating that there is legal clearance to use the original. I replaced with the following 'There has been rumors of plagiarism about DoTa, some people accusing Basshunter of stealing Daddy DJ melody. It is also rumored that Basshunter received legal clearance to use the original melody but there is not public statement on the record company's or Basshunter's website. --64.201.53.194 (talk) 05:59, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Correct title?[edit]

Is this title incorrect? I think it's Vi Sitter HAR i Ventrilo Och Spelar DotA. Additionally, it doesn't sound like he's saying 'Ventrilo' but Venten O.0

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.9.239.140 (talk • contribs) 23:08, 1 January 2007

Just take a look at the cover. That should tell you the title of the article is correct.—♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 09:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I think so too; that he's singing 'Venten' and not 'Ventrilo', but I suppose that's some kind of slang for Ventrilo, and the title of the song doesn't have to be the same as what's actually sung anyway. - x-Flare-x 10:33, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Correct, venten is slang for ventrilo. 83.233.58.40 21:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I have the official LOL <(^^,)^ album and on that album the song is titled 'Vi Sitter Här I Ventrilo Och Spelar Dota' with Här in there and also all the words are capitalized. However on Basshunter's official website the song is titled as in this article. So maybe one way is the old spelling of it and he may have taken out the Här to make the title simpler for English speakers and for typing so you don't have to do the ä. Ickalanda (talk) 05:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
'Venten' would probably be translated to something like 'The ventey' or similar. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 01:24, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
'Venten' directly translates into 'The Vent', as in referring to a specific Ventrilo ('Vent') server. It's fairly widespread slang among Swedish Ventrilo users. That is indeed what he sings, but seemingly isn't what the song is titled. - Alltat (talk) 12:55, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
No one release include 'Vi Sitter Här I Ventrilo Och Spelar Dota' title. Done} Eurohunter (talk) 12:42, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Plagiarism?[edit]

I think it should be mentioned that this song is an obvious rip-off of the song 'Daddy DJ' by the French trio Daddy DJ that was a major hit in Europe in 2001. While the lyrics are completely different, the melody is almost identical. I don't know wether Basshunter has acknowledged this officially or not. - x-Flare-x 10:33, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

To back up this claim I refer to the AllMusic entry on 'Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA' (I'm not sure how reliable it is as a source though, but for the moment it's better than none):

Composed By
Belval, J.C./LeRoy, D.

and the article on Daddy DJ on the German Wikipedia:

Daddy DJ ist eine DJ-Formation aus Frankreich und besteht aus drei Bandmitgliedern David Le Roy, Jean-Christophe Berval und Charly.

which translates to: 'Daddy DJ is a DJ group from France and consists of the three band members David Le Roy, Jean-Christophe Berval and Charly.' - x-Flare-x 19:04, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I noticed now that the composers are already stated in the infobox about the song. Nevermind. - x-Flare-x 19:08, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

You must also remember that sampling is still legal. Skullbird11 (talk) 22:38, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

This goes beyond sampling. Sampling you use bits and pieces not the exact same beat count. Not to mention when there is a sample used it is recognized with the record company and is made public. This is not, thats where the issue lies. --64.201.53.194 (talk) 05:44, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I agree, but Basshunter clearly got permission first before he mixed the song Skullbird11 (talk) 17:38, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I removed the uncited assertion that there were rumours of plagiarism. Such assertions need to be quoted, else they are OR. I couldn't find anything outside a few blog posts (not good enough to use as a citation).00:30, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Language[edit]

What language are the words in this song. The article does not say. Gary van der Merwe(Talk) 05:23, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

The lyrics are in Swedish. I changed the article to reflect this. Thanks for pointing it out. :) - x-Flare-x 06:56, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Deletion?[edit]

I think it's faulty to delete on the notion that it is a 'non-notable song'. As one can see from the numbers on the right-hand side, the song was fairly popular in Scandinavian countries, and it is made by a notable artists that has released two albums and has his own article on wikipedia. There are plenty of songs on American albums on this site that aren't released singles or even popular at all. I would suggest that we don't use an American bias when looking at whether or not to delete this article. 199.111.215.73 02:16, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I feel the article should not be deleted, because of this songs significance in bringing youth technology culture into mainstream music. Both in relation to the first single from the same album (Boten Anna), and to previous songs such as 'SMS' by the Barcode Brothers, it has a central place in describing the emergence of technology and internet as a major force in the daily life of todays youth, and this song in particular illustrates the passive consumer role and fatalistic boredom that leads to a shift from the first wave of internet users into the mass market. It also illustrates cross cultural influences, exemplified by the interlinking on this very site between this song and the articles on Ventrilo and DotA. 217.144.236.4 09:04, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

A third vote for this article against deletion. To quote the Music Notability article 'It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.' Basshunter has two published albums, one of which was released by Warner Music and has reached great success in Swedish-language markets. That in no way means it is eligible for deletion because of notability. After two days up, three objections, and no arguments for, I am taking down the deletion notice. 68.54.164.8 11:46, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I'd put a fourth on that, everyone I know who knows about BH, usually the only song they know is DotA, and it leads me to assume, that has to be one of his major hits.Tainted Love:Soft Cell::DotA:BassHunter, IMHO.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read the sentence 'I am taking down the deletion notice.'-Anon.April 9, '08

Music Video[edit]

What do hot chicks dancing around have to do with DotA? I don't get it.

Because DotA is über sexy, even more so than the women. (I'm not gay.)Yeah, we're going to leave this topic up here until W, April 16th, so you have one week to see my answer, then I'm going to delete this discussion topic.-Anon.April 9th '08

Well in the original music video you can see DOTA being played and the hot chicks dancing are just there cause Basshunter likes watching hot chicks dance I guess and he assumes most of his viewers do too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx_Kf3iIq4QIckalanda (talk) 05:22, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

I didn't realise that being gay meant you thought computer games were sexy, do you have a source for this (WP:VERIFY)? - 86.140.56.154 (talk) 22:10, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Development section should be rewritten or removed[edit]

I think the Development section should be rewritten or removed because it’s utterly inappropriate—Wikipedia is not for rumours. There are references (with no access dates, authors, or titles!) that show there was no public statement, but none supporting the rumours themselves! I’ll only correct the grammar for now but plan to remove the section unless someone rewrites it or responds here.

By the way, I don’t understand the random attractive girls’ relevance either, but please don’t ask that on Wikipedia. :)

'Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA' (Swedish for 'We're sitting in Ventrilo, playing DotA' and shortened to 'DotA') is a song by SwedishdanceDJBasshunter which samples a remixed version of the French song 'Daddy DJ' by Daddy DJ. The lyrics, in Swedish, are about using the voice chat program Ventrilo while playing Defense of the Ancients, a gamemode within Warcraft III. The song incorporates samples from the game. It was released as the second single from Basshunter's first album LOL.

Music video[edit]

The video starts out with Basshunter's mother (portrayed by his actual mother) opening a door where it reveals that he and his friends are playing DotA. She tells him that he's playing too much DotA when he starts singing. The video continues showing him playing DotA and later singing at a gamehall live. The clip was not shot during DreamHack, as many believe, but during a similar event called The Gathering, one of the world's largest LAN party events. One of the listeners holds a sign saying 'Vadå båt?' (Whaddaya mean boat?) - referring to some listeners' initial confusion of the Swedish lyrics in 'Boten Anna', mistaking the word 'boten' (the bot) for 'båten' (the boat). This could explain the wrong translation in the German version of 'Boten Anna' where 'Boot' (boat) is sung instead of 'Bot' (bot). Another approach is that the person holding the sign is German and wanted to point out the mistake, so Basshunter simply recorded this as a kind of self-parody.[citation needed]

The new video starts with him sitting in a chair, then flipping up a screen on his chair, then selects a video from a little menu floating in the air. Then the videos from there shows more people playing DotA, and several shots of a young woman dancing. He can also be seen playing as the hero Tiny, where he purchases an item, Butterfly. The tune to the new video is actually 'DotA' (New Single Version).[citation needed]

An English version of the song called 'All I Ever Wanted' was released as the second UK single on 7 July 2008. The second single was originally planned to be 'Please Don't Go' but due to some technical issues the single was scrapped in the UK and only released in Sweden.
